Matthew 16 New
American Standard Bible (NASB)
Discipleship Is Costly
Matthew 16:24 Then
Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must
deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 25 For whoever
wishes to save his [v]life will lose it; but
whoever loses his [w]life for My sake will find
it.26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and
forfeits his soul? Or
what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of
Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will
then [x]repay
every man according to his [y]deeds.
28 “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are
standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming
in His kingdom.”

1. Jesus, I my
cross have taken,
all to leave and
follow Thee.
Destitute,
despised, forsaken,
Thou from hence
my all shall be.
Perish every
fond ambition,
all I’ve sought
or hoped or known.
Yet how rich is
my condition!
God and heaven
are still mine own.
2. Let the world
despise and leave me,
they have left
my Savior, too.
Human hearts and
looks deceive me;
Thou art not,
like them, untrue.
And while Thou
shalt smile upon me,
God of wisdom,
love and might,
Foes may hate
and friends disown me,
show Thy face
and all is bright.
3. Man may
trouble and distress me,
’twill but drive
me to Thy breast.
Life with trials
hard may press me;
heaven will
bring me sweeter rest.
Oh, ’tis not in
grief to harm me
while Thy love
is left to me;
Oh, ’twere not
in joy to charm me,
were that joy unmixed
with Thee.
4. Haste then on
from grace to glory,
armed by faith,
and winged by prayer,
Heaven’s eternal
day’s before thee,
God’s own hand
shall guide thee there.
Soon shall close
thy earthly mission,
swift shall pass
thy pilgrim days;
Hope soon change
to glad fruition,
faith to sight,
and prayer to praise.

1. Minha cruz, Senhor, eu tomo
para andar no Teu querer,
Tudo enfim aqui renego,
Só em Ti terei prazer.
'Inda que meus caros sonhos,
Tudo aqui eu vá deixar,
Tenho pas na graça eterna,
Tenho em Deus meu eterno lar.
2. Posso aqui sofrer desprezo,
Pois Jesus também penou,
Homens vis e maus existem,
Mas Jesus jamais falhou.
Teu amor comigo sempre
Tenho aqui, ó meu Jesus.
Mesmo que eu sofra provas,
Paz terei na Tua luz.
3. Corro assim da graça à glória
Pela fé no meu Senhor,
Breve vem raiando o dia,
Resplendente em seu fulgor.
Eis que vem o fim da luta
Lá no céu no eterno lar,
Nossa fé real se torna,
Vendo a glória de Deus raiar.
