THE RIGHTEOUS & THE WICKED: Some Characteristics (Psalm 1:1-6) / The Righteous: His Delight, Hope and Cry for Deliverance & Renewal: Hymn "Take Wings to Thy Soul"

1. THE WICKED

1.1 The Wicked Man is not like the Righteous Man (vv 4-6)

1.1.1 He loves the world or the things in the world (1 John 2:15,16)

1.2 He is like straw blown away by the wind (v 4)

- “Psalm 1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.”

1.3 His WAY, thus, leads to DESTRUCTION (vv 5,6) and Psalm 7:11-16; Proverbs 2:22; 14:12; 16:25; Matthew 25:46a; Romans 3:10-18; 2 Peter 3:7; Revelation 20:15; 21:8…)

- “Psalm 1
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”

2. THE RIGHTEOUS

2.1 His delight is in the Law of the LORD (vv 1,2; 19:7-10; 119:77,92,97…)

- “Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

2.1.1 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that produces fruit (v 3; Psalm 92; John 15:16…)

- “Psalm 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

2.2 “The LORD knoweth the way of the Righteous” (v 6) and 18:32; 139:1-4..)

2.2.1 The LORD is the Way of the Righteous (John 14:6; 23; 15:7-11; 1 Peter 3:18…)

2.3 His WAY, therefore, leads to true HAPPINESS (v 1) and Psalm 84:12; 112:1; Proverbs 8:34,35; 13:13; 28:14a; Matthew 5:3-12; 25:46b; Revelation 2:11; 21:7…)

3. EAGLE'S RENEWAL - (Isaiah 40:31 and Psalm 103:1-5)

3.1 “our vitality and have our youth renewed like the eagle's at the same time”

Isaiah 40:31 Pictures, Images and Photos

           Psalm 103
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

4. Deliverance - (Psalm 107)

4.1 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles

Psalm 107:23 Others went out on the sea in ships;
they were merchants on the mighty waters.

Psalm 107:24 They saw the works of the LORD,
his wonderful deeds in the deep.

Psalm 107
25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest
that lifted high the waves.
26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
in their peril their courage melted away.
27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men;
they were at their wits’ end.

ocean, sea, boat, blue, animated

Psalm 107
28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
29 He stilled the storm to a whisper;
the waves of the sea were hushed.
30 They were glad when it grew calm,
and he guided them to their desired haven.

Psalm 107
31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for men.
32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people
and praise him in the council of the elders.

Words: Eliza E. Hesitt
Music: Charles H. Gabriel

 2. http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/t/a/k/e/takewins.htm

1. Take wings to thy soul; take the pinions of prayer
To rise above trials, temptations and care;
New measures of blessing so trustfully bring,
And hold sweet communion with Jesus, thy king.

Refrain

Take wings, bright wings;
Take wings to the soul, O, believer, today!
Take wings, bright wings;
Mount up as the eagle, rejoice in thy way.

2. Take wings to thy soul; take the pinions of praise;
Arise, like the lark, in the pure morning rays;
With carols of gladness as fresh as the dew,
Give thanks for His mercies, abundant and true.

3. Take wings to thy soul; take the pinions of love,
All faithfully serving the Master above;
O, haste to the needy with tidings of cheer;
Spread heavenly sunshine where pathways are drear.
